The GuardCon Statement is conceptual in the sense that its applicable in the real world on a daily basis through the medium of each individual. In our case, it’s the medium of the security guard.

Applying Kaizen then takes on a specific meaning. It has a specific purpose. That purpose is digging our heels in to be the best security guards we can, each and every day. A significant part of this process exists in the small details.

Generally speaking, large goals or milestones are usually reached through exceptional performance in the little things, consistently. It may sound like a cliche, it may even sound a little boring – but its how things get done. It’s how mountains are moved.

In the field, that means focusing on the details of the job at hand. At Guardium, as you’re all well aware, being on the job does not equate to just being there. We strive to be the best, that means platinum standard service delivery to our clients. Good, is not good enough…

As easy as it is to fall into the trap of monotony in the world of security, we must not compromise on our central vision. So I’ve decided to outline the GuardCon Statement again, below. As you read it and study the true implications of the typed words on the screen, be attentive to the fact that the GuardCon Statement is specifically applicable to our world of security.

By dedicating ourselves to self-improvement at work, the by-product will spill over into all aspects of our lives and the final outcome is to be better, happier, self-fulfilled, at peace with our lives and the direction we’re heading.

We’re currently working on a comprehensive on-line system that will greatly aid in lifting our standards to even greater heights. This system will be comprised of:

A list of our sites with site specific SOP’s and competencies

A study guide to the GuardCon Statement

Security Industry Legislation

First Aid Information

General Security Tips

Information on our Random Inspections

The Guardium Concept in Simple Terms – General Information on the Vision and Dynamics of our Organisation

Each one of you will receive a login and password, which you enter through our website. You will then have access to all the above information in an interactive environment. The goal is to turn each and every one of you into an elite security operative. This is more a process than a destination and it’s ultimately up to you!

So here’s the GuardCon Statementin black & white:

Kaizen – Every day, I dig my heels in to do better than yesterday – to be better than I was yesterday. My goal is to be the best possible representation of myself.

Dedication to Guardium – Climbing mountains is a metaphor for somethingmuch bigger. Guardium is not just a security company. It’s a metaphor for somethingmuch bigger. Guardium is a place for people who know what that something is. Dedication to that something is a special dedication to ourselves.

Ownership of Position- When wearing the Guardium uniform, we own our positions with passion. The buck stops with us. We take initiative as much as we take responsibility. This is the Guardium Way.

Performance is the Last Word- The Guardium environment is a High-Performance Environment. Our performance, day-in, day-out is the most power mirror reflecting who we really are. Our language is respect from performance. Words are always secondary.

Membership Privileges- Guardium is all about Stepping-Up. Rewards come to those who Step-Up. We do not compare those who step-back with those who Step-Up.

Respect for All Guardium People- Showing respect where respect is due. A Guardium veteran has survived through consistent performance. We respect performance.

Multi-Dimensional Perception- There are many levels to Stepping-Up through Performance. In fact, it’s a way of life. Awareness of the big picture applied to the smallest detail, is the Guardium Way.

Know Your Place- Clients are Kings and Queens. Guardium staff above you are Dukes and Duchesses. Know the Guardium OrgChart and Chain of Command. Don’t envy those above you – strive to be there too. There is always room for those who know what the Guardium environment really is. We all serve our clients – this is the measure of our performance.

Restraint When Frustrated- Nothing real is perfect. We all make mistakes – it’s the universal teaching method. Within the Guardium environment, we show restraint when frustrated. High Performance environments are challenging.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read this post and hopefully ponder a little on what it really means. Myself and Michael will be accompanying Richard and Stuart during random inspections in the coming weeks and months so if we don’t see you before, see you on site.

New systems have been put in place to ensure this does not occur in the future.

The Administration Department will send reminders to all guards when your Security Licence or First Aid renewal is approaching. If any assistance with paperwork is required, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant Department Head.

As the Licencing renewal process can take quite some time to process, I will be contacting you 8-9 weeks before the expiry date. All guards will be required to to confirm with me via email that you are on top of the matter.

Once all compliance updates have been met, a scanned copy of all new certificates and licences will need to be sent through to the Admin. Department at the earliest possible convenience.

Please do not leave it to the last minute to submit your paperwork to the Security Industry Registry as this may result in your licence renewal application not being received in time and an expired licence.

Due to the repercussions to Guardium that will occur if this is not done,we will unfortunately have to suspend all further shifts until all compliance is met.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

GuardCon is communicated via presentation, body language, grooming, posture, attitude and general work ethic, to name a few.

To ensure and maintain the high quality of our service delivery, Stuart and Richard have been promoted to Operations Coordinators. Their new roles involve random on-site inspections of all Guardium sites.

Inspections will be completely random. A typical Guardium site will be inspected approximately three times a week.

Inspections will involve:

Uniform check

Grooming

Paperwork, including sign-on and shift logs

Knowledge of duties for the site

Punctuality

Knowledge of GuardCon

Knowledge of First Aid

Knowledge of Security Industry regulations, acts etc

Equipment – mini torch, notebook, first aid pouch

Emergency contacts

Communications devices – example: radios and mobile phones. Are they charged? Do they have credit?

Stuart and Richard have displayed oustanding performance right from the inception of their employment and have provided our organisation with crucial support in the field countless times. Congratulations gents, we’re looking forward to seeing both of you rise up through the ranks in the coming years.

Stuart and Richard will commence their roles as Coordinators on Monday 4th October. Please cooperate and support them in their new positions.

Whilst we’re on the subject of uniforms, please ensure a black suit has a home in your wardrobe as this allows us to roster you at more sites. Finally, if you require a lanyard or black clip-on tie, please let us know.

Mobile Phones
For those on the team using pre-paid mobiles, please ensure you have credit on your phone whilst on duty.

Provisionals
For our provisional guards, please stay in contact with Wendy and Fernando regarding your assessments so we can aid in getting you a full licence as soon as legally possible. For those of you who are not aware, Wendy is our compliance manager and has been working on an automated database to flag specific dates related to your licence expiry along with key dates pertaining to assessments and paperwork requirements. The closer we work together with you on this issue the smoother the transition to your full licence and that’s a great thing for all parties involved.

New Guards
Over the last fortnight, we have introduced some new guards to the team. Mick, Sami, Jacob, Mack, John, Fadi and Matt will be around our various sites from here on in, so please give them a warm welcome.

Weekly Hours
Due to seven new guards requiring hours, the rosters may be somewhat turbulent for the next couple of weeks. Please be patient with us guys, as we do our best to get you all your ideal hours per week. If you need to talk to someone regarding this, please call Fernando or if it has something specifically to do with your pay, call me.

Weekly Hours II
Just a quick reminder to sms your weekly hours to Fernando every Sunday. In this text, we require the day, start time, finish time and site name.

Wake-Up Calls
Recently, we introduced a wake-up call service available to all guards. To use this service, please contact Fernando, Wendy or myself the day prior and let us know the time you wish to be woken along with the preferred phone number. A couple of guards have already used it so don’t be shy!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a great September.
